LAHORE:

Several unions of the Pakistan Railways workers have decided to launch a protest drive against the proposed privatisation of the organisation under the banner of Rail Mazdoor Ittehad (RMI). This was announced on Friday at a press conference by RMI president Hafiz Salman Butt.

He said Railways’ workers from all over the country would attend a general council meeting on November 23 to decide on a future course of action. He added that the RMI would also request the Supreme Court to make it a party to the suo motto hearing by the court after the Railways management failed to pay its pensioners in time.

Butt said all workers’ unions had decided in principle to unite to stop the privatisation of the organisation. He said those conspiring against the Railways would not be successful. He said executive councils and general councils of various unions had been taken onboard on the decision to protest privatisation.

Sheikh Muhamad Anwar, Nazeer Ahmed, Inayat Ali, Waqar Qamar, Mustansir Javed, and Salamat Khan were also present on the occasion.
