Firing: Two constables shot and beaten

LAHORE:

A police constable was shot and injured and another was beaten when they tried to stop aerial firing at a wedding in a Christian community at Gushan-i-Ravi police precincts on Thursday.

A resident of Nonarian Chowk complained about aerial firing during a wedding. Two constables of Muhafiz Squad, Hassan and Allah Dita responded to the call and arrived at house of Basharat Masih. Masih was reportedly drunk and firing shots in the air. The constables tried to stop Masih. Masih then fired at them and Hassan sustained a bullet injury below his stomach while Allah Ditta was caught and beaten with cricket bats. Later, the SHO along with a large number of police arrived at the location to arrest the culprit. The injured constables were shifted to Mayo Hospital.

SP (operations) Iqbal Town Muntazir Mehdi said an FIR has been lodged against 15 to 20 men while 10 had been arrested.
