Tere bin Pornistan

Rahman Waqas July 18, 2010

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Ahmed Rafay Alam’s article “Tere bin Pornistan” (July 17). I agree with Mr  Alam on several points, however, as a patriot, I’m offended by the term “Pornistan.” The disparaging term is a crude mockery of my country’s name, and I take strong exception to it. Two types of people are actively involved in maligning my country: illiterate moulvis and literate moulvis. And I daresay the writer falls into the latter category.

Jonaid Iqbal | 14 years ago | Reply I am sure that Mr. Alam did not mean Pakistan when he wrote the word Pornistan. Mr. Alam may have given a slant to Fox's broadcast gloating over the fact that Pakistanis did the most surfing on porn web-sites. That statement has now been disowned by Google- and also the Pakistan IT severs. However the fact remains that the liberal class takes the cake in wriitng some very nasty things about their own country. I know.Pakistan figures badly in international image but the case is made worse by the strong, opinionated arguments against Pakistan that they write so well in their immaculate, polished English. You know the rest -the press in the west and the outside TV channels treat these outbursts as certified truth, and blow it up. That makes a case of biting the hand that feeds. For heavens sake, fellow great liberals, give Pakistan a reprieve from calumnies. Make it big, great and worth lving in at least by treating yoor country and its citizens well. Make Pakistan proud.
