Art exhibition held to promote fashion, textile designing
Students display their talent in jewellery and garments.
PESHAWAR:
Jewellery, ready-to-wear clothes, cosmetics, paintings, linen and artwork are among the things on display a two-day art exhibition that inaugurated here on Friday.
The exhibition is being organised by Iqra National University (INU) to promote fashion, art and textile designing.
Laila Ali, a stall holder, said that the exhibition aimed to promote fashion and textile designing in the city and to develop a sense of fashion among people.
“Our university is the only institution in Peshawar which is offering a course in textile designing. I hope to become a well-known designer one day,” she added.
INU Arts and Design Lecturer Najamul Saqib said that the institution is providing state-of-the-art fashion designing course to students, adding that the exhibition would help in promoting the students’ talent.
The exhibition was visited by a large number of local women, who appreciated the work of students.
“Jewellery, garments and cosmetics are a woman’s ‘weakness’ and it is so great to find all these things here under a single roof,” said Lubna, a visitor.
Rameen, another visitor, said, “I really enjoyed the arts exhibition. The university students made a great effort in displaying their talent through their innovative products.”
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare Sitara Ayaz, who was the chief guest, paid a visit to the stalls and appreciated the exhibition.
“There is no dearth of talent in the province. The people just need guidance to follow the right direction. It is high time for us to promote local talent and take things to a national and international level,” she remarked.
“The provincial government will take steps to promote fashion and will provide assistance to talented women,” she said, adding that the government is planning a fashion show in Islamabad within the next few months where local women will be given the opportunity to display their work.
