Mqm-h petition: Afaq wants protection upon release

The Sindh government was asked by the Sindh High Court to appear in a petition filed by Afaq Ahmed.

KARACHI:
The Sindh government was asked by the Sindh High Court to appear in a petition filed by Afaq Ahmed, the chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H). He wants Pakistan Rangers to protect him for at least a year after his release on bail. Afaq maintains that during joint interrogations, alleged terrorists belonging to a rival party disclosed a plan to kill him. He said that hundreds of his party workers, affiliates and supporters have been killed and their party headquarters, Bait-ul-Hamza, was razed to the ground in 2003. He also asked the court to order the government to pay compensation to the displaced families and the heirs of workers who died. On Tuesday, after hearing the initial arguments by the counsel for the petitioner, the bench ordered the officials to appear and face the proceedings at the next hearing.
