No alternative to peace with India

NEW DEHLI: This is with reference to Raza Rumi’s article “No alternative to peace with India” (July 14). I’m happy to hear voices from Pakistan about peace. Pakistan violated the spirit of the Shimla Agreement by engaging India in an armed conflict over Kargil. However, Pakistan now has an elected government representing its people. If it was on the same page as the writer, subservient moaning about Pakistan experiencing tough times would probably not have any meaning in such writings.

After the Indian government provided prima facie evidence it cannot be denied that the conspiracy for the carnage in Mumbai was hatched in Pakistan. The citizenry on the Indian side is unable to understand what stops our neighbour from further investigating the matter. The situation is not a simple matter of trust deficit. It’s about the complete absence of trust. The wishes of Pakistani citizens are well taken and appreciated. But, to my understanding, with every incident of terrorism, Indian citizens are becoming averse to the idea of negotiating with Pakistan. However, we should not lose hope and see how our leaders respond to the need of the hour.
