No central contract for Jayasuriya

COLOMBO:
Sri Lanka all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya  has received another blow after being left out of the 20 players Sri Lanka Cricket offered central contracts for the current year.

The 41-year-old who became a permanent fixture in the Sri Lanka side after playing a key role in the 1996 World Cup, found himself dropped from the list. Though a veteran of 110 Tests and 444 ODIs has stated that he would like to play until the 2011 World Cup before finally calling it quits, Sri Lanka Cricket has felt that he has been out of form for too long.

Meanwhile, star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who announced that he would retire from Test cricket at the end of the first Test against India, has been retained in the top category. Muralitharan is going to play his last Test, needing eight more wickets to become the first bowler to reach 800 Test wickets.
