PM appoints new DG IB, IG Highways and Motorway Police
Aftab Sultan, an officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) recently promoted to BPS-22, has been appointed DG IB among three officers included in the panel.
The two other officers mentioned in the panel were incumbent Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Javed Iqbal and incumbent IGP Balochistan Rao Amin Hashim – both officers of the PSP.
The summary was forwarded to the prime minister for his approval by the Establishment Division in the last week of September.
Former IG Sindh Wajid Ali Durrani, who transferred from his post on Friday and reported to the Establishment Division along with another police officer, Saud Mirza, was appointed as the new Inspector General of NH&MP.
Durrani will take the charge of the office after the retirement of IG Zafarullah Khan, who is scheduled to retire on November 6, 2011.
The formal notification regarding both the appointments was not issued by the Establishment Division till the filing of this report; however, the prime minister has approved the summary, sources revealed.
The notification will soon be issued by the Establishment Division as well, sources claimed.
Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had appointed Sultan as the head of the investigation team of Bank of Punjab (BoP) Rs9 billion loan fraud case titled Harris Steel Mills' scandal. In the fraud case, Sheikh Muhammad Afzal had taken a loan of around Rs9 billion from the BoP, with the connivance of the then BoP President Hamesh Khan and other relevant bank officers on fake CNICs and fake property papers.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had investigated into the matter but the CJP was dissatisfied over NAB’s performance and appointed Sultan as the probe head of the multi-billion scandal.
