Anti-capitalism rally: In support of ‘Occupy Wall Street’

Public rally to start from Aabpara Chowk and will go up to the World Bank’s office in Islamabad on October 26.

Inspired by the initiative “Occupation of Wall Street”, a group of individuals met up in Islamabad on October 19 and are planning to hold a rally on October 26, said a press release issued by Labour Party of Pakistan. The public rally will start from Aabpara Chowk and will go up to the World Bank’s office in Islamabad, as part of the growing global movement against capitalism.

The meeting discussed that there is an urgent need to link the global movement to local struggles in Pakistan, including most recently, the agitation of Railway and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited workers, and the struggle of those affected by the World Bank-funded mega water projects like Left Bank Outfall Drain, Taunsa and Jinnah Barrage Remodeling projects.

Participants in the meeting included representatives of the Worker’s Party Pakistan, Labour Party Pakistan, Awami Party, Tabqati Judojehd, Socialist Movement Pakistan, Pak Telecom Labour Union, Postal Headquarters CBA Union, Railway Workers Union, Railway Labour Union, National Students Federation, and Berozgar Naujawan Tehreek.

The rally will start from Aabpara Chowk at 3pm. Participants will hold banners, placards and flags reflecting the specific demands of local organisations/struggles.
