Police foil bomb plot at Karachi hospital

Child discovers explosives near hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

KARACHI: Police foiled a bomb plot on Wednesday after a child discovered explosives in a parking lot.

The bomb was discovered underneath a car in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area lot, in between a private bank and the Darul Sehat hospital. The hospital administration reported the bomb to the police.

Upon arrival the Karachi bomb disposal squad discovered a bag filled with about 20kgs of explosives. Sindh police SSP Javed Akbar said, “if the bomb had gone off it would have caused massive loss of life and property.”

Earlier this year, a 16kg powerful explosive device was found and defused in time at the Jinnah hospital on an early Friday morning, averting a massacre. The bomb was planted near a tent where Friday prayers are offered by people of the Shia sect.

I'm a student there and we were told to evacuate the building like at least half an hour after the bomb was found. The bomb plan was "foiled" NOT because of police but because probably it wasn't intended to be blown or it didn't work. Police had nothing to do with it. Heck I was in the parking lot where the car was and nobody told me to get away until I myself realised that the bomb is in the parking. All in all this country faces so many bomb threats and yet the police were incompetent. The only good thing was that many ambulances started arriving which I assume was to shift the patients. But I could be wrong as they aren't that smart. To think a country with recent increase in violent episodes would live and learn at least be able to control the crowd but Alas! Even that couldn't be done.
