LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Asma Jahangir said on Monday that the practice of judges’ interference in bar elections should stop. She said several instances of such intervention were reported in the previous SCBA elections. Jahangir was speaking at a reception for Yasin Azad, presidential candidate in the upcoming SCBA election, at the Lahore High Court Bar Association premises. About non-implementation of superior court’s decisions, Jahangir said the court should initiate contempt of court proceedings against the officials responsible for the negligence. She said the bar would endorse such contempt-of-court proceedings. She however said that bar associations should be allowed to support or oppose court decisions.
