Two PML-N parliamentarians, Shafique Gujjar and Tariq M Bajwa's degrees were declared fake on Tuesday by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Earlier, the Punjab University confirmed 217 degrees of parliamentarians as authentic, while a total of six degrees were declared fake.

According to sources, the university could not verify the remaining degrees for lack of incomplete credentials submitted by the parliamentarians.

The Higher Education Commission also announced that academic degrees of 29 parliamentarians have been found fake till yet.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, HEC Advisor Mehmood Raza said 1,065 degrees were received by the HEC for verification, out of which 455 degrees have been found genuine while 29 are bogus.

The verification of the rest of the degrees is underway. Raza also said HEC will present its final report to the National Assembly's Standing Committeee on Education on July 16, 2010.

Fake Degrees in Pakistan | 14 years ago | Reply This is just a start. Eventually, all politicians must declare their assets and submit tax returns for the last 5 years. That should help filter out some more junk. Finally, the ECP should ensure that no politician has citizenship of any other country, as specified in the constitution of Pakistan. That should filter out whats left. Also, check out a current list of all fake degree holders at http://fakedegrees.zzl.org
