According to police officials, the girl’s parents approached them and told them the girl was a minor. “They even showed her birth certificate,” inspector Rana Naseer said. Badli Sharif’s Busti Sawan Awan resident Riaz Ahmed and Sargodha resident Sidra Ayub developed a relationship over the phone and decided to elope.
The girl ran away from home and took a bus to Rahim Yar Khan to marry Awan in court but her family chased her down and had Awan arrested. Sadiqabad Saddar police arrested the couple and Riaz’s brothers Awais Ahmed and Ishfaq Ahmed and handed them to Sargodha police.
