The state and militancy
ISTANBUL:
This is with reference to Asfandyar Khan’s article “Making the state fight militancy” (July 9). Laying blame for terrorism solely at the doors of the political establishment is unfair. By only holding politicians responsible for everything that goes wrong, we strengthen religious extremism and this is precisely what the godfathers of Pakistan’s strategic depth theory want. As long as citizens hold politicians responsible for the mess that the military created, the military’s reputation will remain immaculate.
