LAHORE:

A sub inspector was shot in the leg over a Rs500 bill for car repairs in Samanabad on Friday. Lytton Road police have registered a case against a mechanic and a car salesman for attempted murder under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

SI Asif Zahoor, who is in his 40s, apparently owed Zafar Auto Mechanics, a workshop on Ganda Nala Road, money for electrical repairs done to his Suzuki Khyber car at the end of last month. Zafar called Zahoor to his workshop on Friday to discuss the bill. Also present was Naeem, a friend of Zafar and the owner of a showroom in Samanabad.

Police said that Zahoor and Zafar got into an argument and Naeem, offended by the SI’s behavior, pulled out a gun and shot him in the leg, fracturing his bone. SI Zahoor was taken to Services Hospital for treatment and is said to be recuperating there.

Sub Inspector Ashraf told The Express Tribune that SI Zahoor had claimed to have paid the full bill. He said that the dispute was over Rs500. He said that Naeem, a resident of Samanabad, and Zafar, a resident of Sheikhupura, had fled after the shooting and the police were looking for them.
