Free From Lock Up: Robbery suspect dies in police custody

KARACHI: Mohammad Ali and Imran were arrested for an alleged robbery from Preedy Street in Saddar, on Wednesday. According to the police, they were injured when a vehicle hit them while they were trying to flee after robbing a man, Faraz. Both were taken to Jinnah hospital where doctors admitted Imran and handed Ali over to the police with a fractured leg. Reports said that Mohammad Ali died because of alleged police torture in lock up, which is denied by the police. SHO Jahangir said that Ali was a habitual criminal and was involved in over half a dozen crimes. According to the medico-legal officer, Dr Ayaz Memon, the victim had no mark of torture on his body. The post mortem reports will clarify the reason of his death, he added.
