Here is what the local twitterati had to say about the verdict:

One reason I was against his death sentence was, he will get clemency and roam free in another six months

I just can't make self approve of the death sentence, but if someone has to be on receiving end, Salmaan Taseer's killer would be my choice.

It's a bit weird when a death sentence being announced gives me joy and hope.

One #Qadri down how many more to go?

We are nobody to decide whether justice been done with Mumtaz Qadri (particularly)or not....Only Allah knows the best

Mumtaz Qadri gets death sentence ... What a wonderful day ... Finally justice has been prevailed .. The Taseers stand victorious .

Unfortunately the battle for justice in the #Qadri case is not over. They still have the opp to appeal. Sadly. #Pakistan

Well said. @dnoorani: Let us not celebrate the death sentence ofQadri, but rather silently acknowledge that justice has been served.

@AN: if i misunderstood your comments than my apologies. but than maybe qadri and his ilk should learn to talk and debate...thats not going to happen though as long as he war goes on?
How many crimes will we commit 'In the name of Religion' ? We have been using our 'Peaceful Religion' to justify our own personal inabilities, weakness and lusts. We have for many years rather then studying the 'Quran' have taken a short-cut and have started to listening to the lectures of few politically & financially motivated as well as uneducated Mullah's. For the name of God and for the name of our Prophet, stop this as it is not only harming us but also embracing our Prophet.
Shame on Qadri and all people like him who kill in 'the name of God, in the name of Prophet' without really having any real understanding of our peaceful religion. For being a good Muslim, you first need to be a good human being. Treating women, elderly, people from other religions, and more then anything respecting a different opinion (not agreeing is always possible) is some of our basic values. Our deeds today a casting a shadow on Muslims all over the world - has what happened since 9/11 helped Islam or has it damaged more? the answers are very clear.
I am happy and am sure the Allah who speaks in Quran to us and his messenger 'Our holy prophet' will be satisfied to see that justice is being served to people like 'Qadri'.
So my confused countrymen, some of my ignorant Muslim brother 'stop doing things in name of Allah and his prophet' till you are 100% sure thus is what they said and what they want. May Allah guide us to the right path, as otherwise we will defame the name of his religion and his beloved prophet. Ameen.
samishah It’s a bit weird when a death sentence being announced gives me joy and hope.
Same here. :)
@ Muhammad Rai Yes history will not forgive him. His "services" alone to our religion will be remembered by the world over. He singlehandedly maligned our religion and our country's name. I give him "credit" for that.
@Muhammad Rai: I am seriously shocked by your comment, especially as your named after the prophet, for you to eulogise this murderer is beyond my comprehension.. I am shocked and disturbed that a Muslim can take another human beings life in the name of Islam.. you and people who are serious about Islam should read the Koran specifically in relation to the taking of another's life? do you have any idea why islam spread so rapidly and its teachings were taken on board by the vast sea of humanity, it was because it forgave and while it was pre-eminent it allowed all religions to co-exist... i hope that one day the true muslims will wake up and not be ruled by ignorant mullahs who know only how to raise merry hell in the name of islam..
Asim , Salmaan Taseer said nothing derogatory about the Holy Prophet. So syop lying. And when the Holy Prophet said I should be dear to u then anything else, he wasnt saying, kill for me, He was saying follow my example in everything. So dont distort islam, Qadri murdered n he should be hanged. And he murdered the man he was being paid to protect, So thats a double crime.
Asim, first of all, since you claim to know so much more than everyone else about Islam, how did you forget that the Prophet (PBUH) forgave people who did so much more to him during his life than merely pass comments? He went to the extent of forgiving a woman who bit into his uncle's liver. So I really don't understand how people like you, who think you're so pious, think that were this to have happened during the times of the Holy Prophet, any one would have been blown away (not to mention the sheer lack of knowledge of the time line re: Gun powder).
Further, while your sentiments are admirable, and no one supports derogatory remarks about the Prophet (PBUH), what you said is true, * your going to go and Face Prophet Muhamamd SAW and ALLAH SWT on judgement day*, so why don't you leave it between the individual, God and His Prophet. As far as I can see, you have no role to play. Why don't you understand religion is a personal, private thing?! Go pray for a deeper understanding of Islam.
Qadri is Hero of this era. History will never forgive him. This punishment was pre assumed by him. I don't want to say bad words about Taseer but he was not innocent. If you go back to history no one got free after these kind of act.
@CR: dont u remember that the relatives have taken the blood money , , ,poor memory
VERY apt picture choice ms ema :D !!!
Let the Hanging be a message to all Killers and people who murder in the name of religion, that they will be sent directly to God for justice.
Adeel Ahmed: Are You an Islamic Scholar? How can you pick few lines (i.e. Blood for Blood) and generalize it ? Its not killing for personal gain or personal motives etc... He killed because he thought Mr. Taseer crossed the line....and for that matter, how about the Hadidth of Prophet SAW. You are not a momin untill and unless, I am above, your wealth, your family, every thing you have...? ALLAH SWT knows whether justice has been done or not....but im sure, if Mr. Taseer would have done this in the Era of Prophet Muhammad SAW... Sahaba Ikram RA would have blowed him away...passing derogatory comments against Prophet Muhammad SAW, the most beloved person of ALLAH SWT on earth...is no joke and very sensitive.....one should be extremely careful before uttering a single word out of mouth regarding Prophet Muhammad SAW...So Mr. Ageel You better not take side of any one.....cuz your going to go and Face Prophet Muhamamd SAW and ALLAH SWT on judgement day.......so stop being judgemental.....you are not gaining any favor in any case...
A common person(Qadri) kills a high profile(Taseer) person A high profile person(Raymand Davis) kills a common person
Difference between served justice can be clearly seen in this country ! SHAME
All those saying that they are somehow angered by the death sentence, and use Islam and the Quran as the justification... I would like to ask them what Islam means when it says money for money, blood for blood (unless you forgive or ask for blood money... which Im sure the Taseer family did not do)... So whether Allah will forgive him or not, is not known... but definitely justice has been done, according to Islam and its teachings as well as the local laws that govern the country.
Hanging Qadri looks good at this time.. but......we should kill the system who creates people like Qadri.
