Adviser to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam has said that the traffic capacity at Torkham crossing would be increased.
He said that historic sites in Khyber Pass would be restored along with a steam safari to attract tourism to the area.
He visited the Torkham border in district Khyber along with Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Mehsud on Wednesday.
During the visit, Aslam was given a detailed briefing on security issues and import-export process at the Machni Check Post.
Aslam stated that the Integrated Transit Trade Management System (ITTMS) would be operational within two to three months, increasing trade traffic between Pakistan and Afghanistan from 600 to 2,000 trucks on a daily basis.
He attributed the current congestion at the border to the single lane 'zero line' where only one vehicle can cross at a time.
The Advissr directed the authorities to expedite clearance mechanisms for perishable goods and establish the Torkham Border Market to facilitate trade.
