QUETTA:

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed concern over delays in the federal flood assistance for flood survivors and stressed the need for immediate action.

He acknowledged the remarkable efforts of the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) in providing support to families affected by the 2022 catastrophe.

Speaking at an event organised at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, he emphasised the importance of assisting disaster-stricken individuals, calling it an act of profound humanity. He praised the KORT's work as a source of hope and inspiration.

The KORT has completed the construction of 250 houses in flood-hit areas across Quetta city, Mastung, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, and Sohbatpur.

At the ceremony, keys to the newly built homes were handed over to the affected families, marking a milestone in their journey toward recovery.

During his speech, the chief minister reiterated the provincial government's commitment to encouraging organisations like the KORT that were dedicated to humanitarian service.

He expressed concern over delays in the federal flood victims assistance initiatives and stressed the need for immediate action to alleviate the hardships faced by flood survivors.

Highlighting the potential for local solutions, Bugti proposed that the Balochistan government could complete the federal flood recovery programme within eight to nine months through the public-private partnership model.

Drawing inspiration from Sindh's success in similar projects under the guidance of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he expressed optimism about replicating those achievements in Balochistan. In a noteworthy announcement, the chief minister unveiled plans to establish a large-scale facility for orphaned children in Balochistan.

He pledged free land for the project and called on philanthropists, government officials, and public representatives to support the initiative, pledging his own participation in this charitable endeavor.

Reflecting on the spirit of national solidarity, the chief minister commended the reciprocal support from the people of Kashmir, who have extended their assistance to Balochistan during this challenging time.

He likened it to Balochistan's earlier support during the Kashmir earthquake, emphasising the unity that binds the nation.

KORT Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Akhtar, speaking at the event, elaborated on the organisation's continuing dedication to humanitarian causes.

Certificates of appreciation were announced by the chief minister to recognise the contributions of donors, volunteers, and other supporters. The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including provincial ministers, parliamentary secretaries, PPP leaders, and Quetta Division Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat. Souvenirs were also presented to the chief minister and other dignitaries.

In his concluding remarks, the chief minister reaffirmed his vision for a progressive and prosperous Balochistan, stating, "Together, we are building a stronger and brighter future for our province."
