The Great British Baking Show host Alison Hammond has addressed criticism of her relationship with boyfriend David Putman, telling people to stop worrying about their 22-year age difference.

The 51-year-old presenter discussed her relationship with Putman, 29, in a new interview with Attitude. When asked what she would say to people who question their age gap, Hammond had a straightforward response: “Mind your business!”

She explained that people should focus less on other people’s relationships, arguing that two consenting adults should be free to enjoy their lives together if they are happy and respect each other.

“If two consenting adults are happy, loved, respected and making each other laugh, what exactly is the problem?” she said.

Hammond also addressed the term “cougar”, pointing out what she sees as a double standard surrounding age-gap relationships. She noted that men who date younger women are often praised, while women in similar relationships receive different labels.

The presenter added that she sometimes finds the criticism amusing, joking that she is not a cougar but “a whole safari!”

Hammond encouraged women to enjoy their relationships without worrying about public opinion. She also said the differences between her and Putman make their relationship interesting, describing their dynamic as a combination of her life experience and his youth.

According to Hammond, one of the things she appreciates most about their relationship is their ability to make each other laugh.

The presenter has hosted The Great British Baking Show alongside Noel Fielding since 2023. The show's 14th collection premiered on Netflix on September 25, following its UK debut as The Great British Bake Off on September 22.

Hammond also presents ITV's This Morning.
