Dax Shepard could be heading to Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, after creator Erin Foster revealed that the writing team is developing a role for the actor in the show’s potential fourth season.

During a recent appearance on Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Foster told him that the writers had been discussing his involvement in the romantic comedy, which stars his wife, Kristen Bell, alongside Adam Brody.

“We’ve been writing you into the season,” Foster told Shepard, prompting him to ask whether she was serious.

Foster explained that the idea had developed over several weeks and had recently grown into something bigger. The team wanted to speak to Shepard about how many episodes he would be willing to appear in before making further decisions.

“It would be pivotal, and an important role,” Foster said, describing the potential appearance as an interesting and fun addition to the series.

Shepard revealed that he had independently considered joining the show after watching its third season. He joked that he could enter the story and disrupt the seemingly perfect situation established by the existing characters.

The actor has been less active in live-action projects in recent years, but his recent experience on Apple TV’s Bad Monkey has changed his attitude towards acting. The series, starring Vince Vaughn, was created by Bill Lawrence, who encouraged Shepard to take on the role.

Shepard said he had been happy not to act for several years, but enjoyed the experience of returning to the screen. He added that he was now more open to considering future acting opportunities.

Foster appeared encouraged by the timing, suggesting the writers had approached him when he was more receptive to the idea.

Nobody Wants This follows Bell’s character, a podcast host, as she develops a relationship with Brody’s character, a progressive rabbi. A fourth-season appearance by Shepard has not been officially confirmed, and details of his potential character remain undisclosed.
