Rihanna has commented on the role non-voters played in Donald Trump’s second-term election victory, responding to a fan on Instagram following a video featuring political commentator Joy Reid.

On October 27, Hollywood Unlocked shared a clip of Reid discussing Trump becoming the 47th president of the United States.

The video, which featured a conversation between Reid and journalist Charles M. Blow, prompted reactions from social media users, including the Grammy-winning singer.

In the clip, Reid reflected on the outcome of the election, saying, "I think America has gotten its just desserts," before adding, "I think Trump, in a very real sense, is what we deserve. I think that this was America's heart's desire. And sometimes the greatest curse is that you get your heart's desire."

Reid also argued that a majority of white Americans wanted an unfiltered Trump presidency.

The video prompted debate in the comments section, where one user agreed with Reid's assessment and criticised those who voted for Trump.

The commenter wrote, "She's speaking facts!! This is exactly what "They" wanted." The user added, "Those who voted for him did this. It's disgusting."

Rihanna responded directly to the comment, offering a broader view of responsibility for the election outcome. The singer, known for songs including "Umbrella" and "Diamonds", wrote, "And believe it or not, those who didn't vote at all, also did this!" She also tagged the fan in her reply.
