Amy Poehler tells Noah Wyle ‘The Pitt’ needs more romance between medical emergencies
Wyle joked that he might consider a different ratio of medical gore to romantic moments

Amy Poehler has offered Noah Wyle some cheeky advice about The Pitt, arguing that the hit medical drama needs more romance to balance its graphic hospital scenes.
The comedian shared her thoughts during Tuesday’s episode of her Good Hang podcast, where she spoke with Wyle about his work on ER and his current role in the HBO medical series. Their conversation came shortly after Wyle was named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.
Poehler praised the show’s makeup team for its realistic depictions of blood and injuries but admitted that some scenes were difficult for her to watch. She then suggested that the series should include more kissing to offset its intense medical content.
“If you are going to show that much, every time you have got to get a little smooch,” Poehler told Wyle, arguing that viewers deserved occasional romantic moments amid the medical emergencies.
Wyle questioned her proposed balance, asking whether she expected one kiss for every graphic scene. Poehler stood by her suggestion, calling for at least one brief kiss during the middle of a shift.
The actor was not entirely convinced. He said he might consider a ratio of one romantic moment for every four graphic scenes, rather than the one to one balance Poehler wanted. He also pointed out that The Pitt does feature nudity, although not necessarily in the romantic context she was suggesting.
Wyle plays Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, an attending physician dealing with the pressures of working in a busy hospital. His performance has earned major recognition, including Golden Globe and Emmy wins. He won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in both 2025 and 2026.
The series is preparing for its third season, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. The upcoming instalment is expected to follow Robby’s return to work after a three month sabbatical at the end of the second season.
