Elmo is embracing high fashion this Halloween, dressing as Miranda Priestly, the formidable magazine editor portrayed by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada films.

The beloved red character from Sesame Street revealed his 2026 Halloween costume in a video released by the children’s television franchise.

The outfit recreates Priestly’s distinctive style, bringing the fictional fashion editor’s sharp attitude to the popular children’s character.

In the video, Elmo introduces his transformation by asking, “Guess who Elmo is?” before revealing his interpretation of the iconic character.

The clip features a pumpkin walking in front of Elmo, prompting him to deliver one of Priestly’s characteristic remarks: “Pumpkins. For fall. How groundbreaking.”

Cookie Monster then appears, with Elmo commenting on his blue fur. “Well, it’s not cerulean. But, it works,” Elmo says, prompting Cookie Monster to respond, “Uh, thanks? Me think?”

The costume marks another seasonal transformation for Elmo, who has previously appeared in Halloween segments dressed as a spaceman, pirate and witch.

The character also remains a popular Halloween costume choice among children and adults.

Streep first portrayed Miranda Priestly in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

The film was adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novel, inspired in part by her experiences working at Vogue.

The original cast returned for the 2026 sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, from 20th Century Studios, bringing Priestly back to the screen and keeping the character relevant to audiences.
