Wendy’s announces free retro RPG WendyQuest for Steam
Wendy’s launching WendyQuest, free turn-based RPG featuring food-themed enemies, pixel art and McDonald’s references

Wendy’s is entering the video game market with WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, a free retro-style role-playing game inspired by classic Japanese RPGs. Developed by 81monkeys, the game is coming to Steam, although its release date has not yet been announced.
The game features Wendy’s redheaded mascot as a sword-wielding hero on a mission to save the kingdom of Savoria from an organisation called Mech Corp.
According to the official Steam listing, its leader, Dr. Mechborg, has unleashed a curse known as “Mechtosis”, threatening the kingdom with frozen beef and soggy fries.
Players must collect four magical stones to stop the threat, using sacred spatulas and recruiting companions along the way. Available allies include the French Fry Archer, Spicy Chickeneer and Frosty Mage, each offering different combat abilities.
WendyQuest features pixel-art graphics, turn-based battles and five food-themed regions, including salty forests, seasoned deserts and Frosty-capped mountains. Players can also time their attacks to deal additional damage during combat.
The game’s enemies appear to reference Wendy’s fast-food rival McDonald’s. Opponents include “Big Mech”, “Mech Chicken”, “Golden Archers” and “Hot Sludge Sundaes”, names that evoke the rival chain’s products and branding.
The game’s description also states: “WendyQuest is 100% fresh and 100% human-made!” Its minimum PC requirements continue the food-based humour, listing a “Potato” processor, “Deep Fryer” graphics card and a sound card powered by salt.
Wendy’s is not the first fast-food company to explore gaming. McDonald’s previously released a retro-style game featuring Grimace, while KFC launched a dating simulator centred on Colonel Sanders. McDonald’s also collaborated with Square Enix on a Dragon Quest promotion in Japan earlier in 2026.
WendyQuest will be free to play on Steam, and players can currently add it to their wishlists. The developers have also teased food-related rewards, but details about how these will work have not been announced.
