Pakistani actor Nadia Afgan recently offered a glimpse into her own family life, sharing a heartfelt account of the kindness she has experienced from her husband Jodi’s family, a reality that reminded her of the fictional character Zaryab in the drama series Dar-e-Nijaat.

In a social media post, Nadia reflected on how her experience of marriage challenged her expectations of in-laws, particularly the relationship she has developed with her mother-in-law. Her words offered a refreshing reminder that, despite the negative family dynamics often portrayed in television dramas and encountered in real life, loving and supportive families do exist.

“Story time: People like Abu Bakar and his mother do exist,” Afgan wrote, referring to the compassionate family dynamic depicted in Dar-e-Nijaat.

She continued by describing her own experience after marrying Jodi, explaining that his family’s warmth had surprised her.

“When Jodi and I got married, I was as shocked as Zaryaab. His parents and his family were and still are the loveliest, most decent, and kindest people in the world.”

Nadia also spoke affectionately about her mother-in-law, describing the bond they share as one that has grown beyond the conventional expectations of a relationship between a woman and her husband’s family.

“I have come to love my mother-in-law like my own mother; she loves me so much,” she shared.

The actor even recalled asking her husband a question that captured just how unexpected this kindness had been for her: “Are you guys actually that nice? And you guys do not argue with each other? Are you aliens?".

Her humorous observation, which translates roughly to asking whether his family really was that nice and why they never fought among themselves, added a personal and relatable touch to her account.

Afgan concluded her message with a sentiment that resonated with the drama’s central themes: “So, I can relate to Zaryaab, and believe me, good humans do exist.”

Nadia’s remarks draw an interesting parallel with Dar-e-Nijaat, a Pakistani television drama that explores love, family relationships, trust, morality and the consequences of personal choices.

The story follows Zaryab, played by Durefishan Saleem, whose life takes a painful turn after her long-standing relationship with her childhood sweetheart, Zamil, ends in betrayal. Zamil, played by Nameer Khan, moves on with his life without giving Zaryab the honesty or consideration she expected from someone she had trusted for years.

In contrast, Abu Bakar, portrayed by Sheheryar Munawar, represents a different kind of male character — one whose compassion and family values become increasingly significant as Zaryab struggles to come to terms with her heartbreak.

The drama’s portrayal of Abu Bakar and his mother, Khushbakht, provides the context for Nadia’s comparison. Their relationship highlights the possibility of a family environment built on affection, loyalty and mutual respect, rather than conflict and hostility.

One of the most touching aspects of Nadia’s post is the affection she expresses for her mother-in-law. In a society where stories of strained relationships between daughters-in-law and their husbands’ families are common in popular entertainment, her experience offers a different perspective.

Television dramas frequently draw audiences in through misunderstandings, family rivalries, controlling relatives and difficult marriages. While these conflicts can reflect genuine social concerns, they do not represent every household.

Afgan’s account suggests that family relationships can also be sources of comfort, acceptance and belonging. The actor herself got married to Jawad Samar Khan, also known as Jodi Pai in June 2008. Recently, the actor starred in the drama serial Pas E Dewaar and Hey Fam. She is also expected to play a side role in Dar-e-Nijaat in the coming episodes.
