RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, died at the age of 34 in Brownsville, Texas, on October 12, 2026.
Following reports of his death by suicide, an earlier account of the financial difficulties he experienced during his acting career has resurfaced.
Mitte was reportedly found dead at his residence in Brownsville, with local authorities confirming that he was pronounced dead at approximately 1.30pm local time.
His representative subsequently confirmed the cause of death as suicide, according to reports. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
Mitte’s death has renewed attention to a previous interview on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast, in which he described how a business manager allegedly mishandled his finances and failed to pay his taxes.
“I've paid more in taxes than I got from Breaking Bad,” Mitte said. “I did have a bad business manager.”
He alleged that the manager sent him fake tax filings while diverting money intended for tax payments. He said the unpaid bills accumulated interest and that it took him 10 years to settle the debt.
“I write a check to go pay my taxes, and instead of her using it to pay my taxes, she would send me a fake filing of taxes and take that money,” he said.
Mitte also alleged that 14 other actors, including older performers and people with disabilities, had been affected.
He described the financial and legal obstacles involved in tracing funds allegedly transferred overseas.
The financial account does not establish any connection between Mitte’s tax difficulties and his death.
The actor was also known for advocating disability rights and greater inclusion in the entertainment industry.
