Gold deposited as case property went missing from a police station storeroom in district Shaheed Benazirabad, prompting the Sindh police chief to order a probe following the arrest of four policemen for alleged negligence and possible involvement.
The 52.5 tolas of gold disappeared from the malkhana of A-Section police station, where seized items are kept as evidence in criminal cases.
Taking notice of the incident, Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho sought a detailed report from the DIG Shaheed Benazirabad and ordered a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation to trace the missing gold.
Shaheed Benazirabad SSP Dr Sameer Noor Channa said preliminary investigations had revealed evidence of negligence and possible involvement, leading to the registration of a case against four policemen and their arrest.
IG Odho directed the police to ensure the recovery of the missing gold and initiate strict legal and departmental proceedings against those found responsible.
He warned that negligence in safeguarding case property and misuse of authority would not be tolerated, stressing that action must be taken against all responsible personnel without discrimination.
