Nicolas Cage says he may not work with Amazon again after refusing AI waiver
Nicolas Cage says he is unlikely to work with Amazon again after refusing AI waiver for 'Spider-Noir'

Nicolas Cage has said he is unlikely to work with Amazon again after refusing to sign an artificial intelligence waiver for Spider-Noir, the superhero series developed for Prime Video.
Speaking during a panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, the actor criticised Amazon’s reported approach to artificial intelligence and explained why he declined to give permission for his likeness to be used through the technology.
“Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,” Cage said. “I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”
Amazon cancelled Spider-Noir after one season last month, shortly before the first weekend of the Emmy Awards.
The series received 11 nominations, the most of any Prime Video programme that year, and reportedly accumulated 2.6 billion minutes viewed during its first six weeks.
Cage also discussed his interest in working with emerging filmmakers, particularly directors from Generation Z who have built their careers through online platforms.
“I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z, and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is,” he said. “They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”
The actor also indicated that he intends to pursue further television projects following Spider-Noir, which marked his first leading role in a television series.
During the panel, Cage revealed that his next project would involve HBO’s crime anthology True Detective.
“My agent’s out there somewhere listening,” Cage quipped. “That’s okay that I’m the first to announce that, right?”
