Section 144 imposed for 10 days
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure across the city for 10 days, from October 11 to 20, banning gatherings of more than five people, protests, rallies and sit-ins.
According to an official notification, the decision was taken following reports from the Sindh Home Department and police officials that demonstrations and sit-ins on major roads, intersections and roundabouts caused severe traffic congestion, disrupted daily life and raised security concerns.
The notification stated that road blockages could hamper the movement of emergency services and restrict access to hospitals. Such disruptions could also affect public and commercial activities and create law and order concerns.
The restriction was imposed to maintain public order, protect citizens' lives and property, ensure public safety and security, and keep essential services running without interruption.
The commissioner directed the relevant authorities to ensure implementation of the ban.
