Paramount is developing a live-action 'Cyberpunk 2077' movie with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD Projekt Red

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action movie based on CD Projekt Red’s popular video game Cyberpunk 2077, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached to the project.

The film will be set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, although plot details and casting have not yet been announced. CD Projekt Red, the Polish video game developer and owner of the franchise rights, will produce alongside di Bonaventura.

Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is set in Night City, a futuristic and dystopian metropolis in California. The game follows V, a mercenary who becomes implanted with a cybernetic biochip containing the digital consciousness of legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand.

As Silverhand’s consciousness begins to overwrite V’s mind, the two must work together to find a way to separate themselves while confronting Arasaka Corporation, one of the most powerful organisations in Night City.

The video game has become a major commercial success, selling more than 40 million copies worldwide. Its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has also sold more than 15 million copies.

The Paramount Cyberpunk 2077 movie is part of the studio’s expanding push into video game adaptations. Paramount is also working on a Street Fighter film with Legendary, while a movie based on the Call of Duty franchise is in development with Peter Berg directing and co-writing alongside Taylor Sheridan.

The live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation adds another major video game property to Paramount’s upcoming film slate. Further details about the director, cast, storyline and release date are expected to be announced later.
