GTA 6 will feature more than 170 animal species, including Rare, Discoverable and Legendary creatures

GTA 6 will feature more than 170 animal species across Leonida, including rare, discoverable and Legendary creatures, according to Game Informer.

The latest issue of Game Informer has revealed new details about Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world title, including its wildlife and the activities available to players.

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, and its animal ecosystem will span urban, rural, aquatic and wetland environments.

According to the magazine, the game will include more than 60 types of birds and over 30 land mammals, alongside reptiles and fish. Wildlife will include feral cats, monkeys, whales, turtles and jellyfish.

“Florida has a diverse animal ecosystem that we wanted to faithfully include across the different biomes in Leonida – urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades,” Rockstar vice president of dynamic art Michael Kane explained.

Some animals will fall into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary categories. Rockstar has not revealed which creatures will belong to these categories.

The wildlife will also feature different visual characteristics, including iridescence, bioluminescence and translucency. Animals will have different feather types, while hair and fur systems will affect pelts and coats.

Players will be able to study animals and visit a zoo, adding wildlife-related activities to the game.

Other activities revealed by Game Informer include base jumping, billiards, gym sessions, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, air boating and jet skiing.

Jason and Lucia will be able to take part in these activities when they are not carrying out robberies, with some activities also contributing to their relationship.

The scale of GTA 6’s wildlife follows the emphasis placed on animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar is scheduled to release GTA 6 on November 19, 2026.
