Kit Harington says future Jon Snow story could still work after planned 'Game of Thrones' spin-off was cancelled

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington says there is still a possibility that he could return as Jon Snow, despite the cancellation of the character’s planned sequel series.

The proposed Jon Snow spin-off was intended to continue the character’s story after Game of Thrones season 8, following his exile beyond the Wall. The project reportedly spent around two years in development before being cancelled.

Harington previously explained that the team “couldn’t find the right story to tell”. However, speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said he remains open to revisiting the character if the right story emerges.

“We developed it for two years or so, and I still think there’s a world in which something could work. I wouldn’t have gone into it in the first place if I didn’t,” Harington said.

“I was very insistent at the start, and they were as well, HBO and George of like, ‘If this doesn’t, if we don’t find the right thing, let’s not do it,’” he continued.

“It’s much, much better we don’t. After a little while of thinking about it, I kind of was ‘Look, I think this isn’t quite the right time.’”

Harington said his decision was influenced by the other projects he pursued after Game of Thrones, including Marvel’s Eternals. He suggested that the time away from the character has changed how he views a potential return.

“I think I was right, because I’ve gone and done all these other things, and now I feel more comfortable with [Jone Snow] and that world again, in where it sits in my life.”

The cancelled series would have focused on Jon Snow’s life following the events of Game of Thrones, although HBO and George R.R. Martin agreed that the project should not proceed without a suitable story.

For now, there is no confirmed Jon Snow revival. Harington’s comments indicate that he has not ruled out returning to the role if a future project provides the right opportunity.
