Taylor Swift announces new single 'Patient Zero' after weeks of cryptic clues
Taylor Swift announces new single 'Patient Zero', set for September 25, with three limited collector’s CDs available

Taylor Swift has announced a new single, "Patient Zero", with the track set to arrive on September 25 following weeks of speculation from fans.
The 14-time Grammy winner revealed the news on Instagram on September 22, saying she had been waiting to share the announcement with her fans. The new Taylor Swift single will be available to pre-order through her website for 24 hours.
Swift also announced three collector’s edition CDs for "Patient Zero". The editions include the standard, acoustic and piano versions of the song, with each CD featuring two different images of the singer. The limited editions will be available for 24 hours or while supplies last.
The announcement followed several cryptic updates from Swift earlier on Tuesday. Her Instagram bio was changed to read, "And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️🔥", featuring three zeroes. A countdown also appeared on her official website, prompting further speculation among fans.
Swift also appeared to have a presence across Spotify, where album-specific animations were added to the play/pause button. Different albums feature different visual effects, including sparkles for The Life of a Showgirl and hearts for Lover.
The new single comes shortly before Swift is scheduled to receive the Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27. The award recognises artists whose work behind the camera has contributed to music video and visual storytelling.
Swift has directed several of her own music videos and made her solo directorial debut with "The Man" in 2020. She later directed All Too Well: The Short Film, which earned multiple MTV VMAs and a Grammy Award.
Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, was released in 2025.
