Sylvester Stallone has joked that he cannot retire from acting because he needs to pay for his daughter Sophia Stallone’s upcoming wedding.

The Rocky and Tulsa King star, 80, made the comment during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on October 13, when co-host Kelly Ripa asked how much he planned to contribute towards Sophia’s wedding expenses.

“Oh, man, it’s almost embarrassing to say — but I can’t retire,” Stallone replied, prompting laughter from the studio audience. He repeated the remark before adding, “I’m serious!”

Sophia, 30, announced her engagement to boyfriend Michael Sheehan on August 28. She shared photographs of the proposal on Instagram, describing her fiancé as her best friend and expressing her excitement about their future together.

During the television appearance, Stallone also praised Sheehan, calling him “a great guy”. The actor revealed that his future son-in-law had asked for his blessing before proposing to Sophia.

“He actually asked for her hand,” Stallone said.

Ripa joked that Sheehan must have been terrified to approach the Hollywood star. Co-host Mark Consuelos also referenced a memorable line from Rocky II, in which Stallone’s character, Rocky Balboa, proposes to Adrian.

Stallone responded with another reference to the film, joking about Rocky’s promise to keep their home tidy. He also praised Sheehan for being confident during the proposal, recalling that he had wished him good luck.

The actor added that his wife, Jennifer Flavin, was present to act as a referee during the interaction.

Stallone and Flavin, who married in 1997, have three daughters together: Sophia, Sistine, 28, and Scarlet, 24. Stallone also has two sons, Seargeoh, 47, and Sage, who died in 2012 at the age of 36, from his first marriage to Sasha Czack.

Sophia’s engagement marks another milestone for the family, with Stallone’s lighthearted remarks highlighting the financial responsibilities that come with planning a wedding.
