Lena Dunham welcomes first baby with husband Luis Felber

Lena Dunham and her husband, Luis Felber, have welcomed their first child, a daughter born via surrogate.

The Girls creator, actress and author, 40, shared the news with Felber, also 40, through an op-ed published by Vogue. The couple married in September 2021 and have previously spoken about their plans to expand their family.

Dunham has been open about her journey to parenthood and her decision to undergo a hysterectomy after years of severe pain linked to endometriosis. She previously explained that the procedure brought both grief and relief, as she had long imagined becoming a mother.

In an April interview, Dunham discussed how her experience with chronic pain affected her feelings about fertility and motherhood. She also said that meeting people who had built families in different ways helped her become more comfortable with the possibility of taking a different path to parenthood.

In July 2025, Dunham revealed that she and Felber were in the process of “expanding” their family in new ways. She said at the time that her priority was to safely meet their future children.

Dunham and Felber’s relationship began before their September 2021 wedding, with the couple keeping much of their personal life relatively private. Felber is a musician and songwriter, while Dunham is known for creating and starring in the HBO series Girls.

The couple’s daughter marks a new chapter for Dunham, who has previously spoken about her hopes of becoming a mother and the challenges surrounding her fertility. The actress has not publicly shared further details about her daughter beyond announcing her birth via surrogate.
