Says drone, missile assault left crew injured as projectiles hit ship carrying American personnel

An Iranian drone and missile barrage struck a vessel contracted by the United States near the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, leaving those on board injured, US media reported on Wednesday.

The assault involved four Iranian drones and at least one missile, with one incoming projectile directly hitting the vessel in waters surrounding the strategic passage, two sources familiar with the matter told Fox News.

The strike caused minor physical injuries among the crew, including smoke inhalation, with those wounded currently undergoing medical treatment in an unidentified Gulf country. Several American personnel were aboard the vessel at the time of the incident.

The maritime engagement unfolds within the wider six-month-old Iran war, where control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital transit corridor carrying more than one-fifth of global oil shipments, remains the conflict's most contested flashpoint amid repeated mine operations and counter-strikes.

US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations across the Middle East, did not immediately respond to Anadolu's requests for comment, and US Naval Forces Central Command referred the question to CENTCOM.

Neither Washington nor Tehran has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
