Gary Oldman says he may not be ready to retire after 'Slow Horses' as season 6 premieres on Apple TV+ this week ahead

Gary Oldman is reconsidering his earlier comments about retirement, admitting he may not be ready to step away from acting after Slow Horses.

The Oscar-winning actor, 68, previously said in 2022 that retirement was “on the horizon” and that he would feel honoured if Jackson Lamb, his character in the Apple TV+ spy drama, became his final role.

Speaking ahead of Slow Horses season 6, Oldman explained that his comments were partly influenced by how much he enjoyed working with the cast and crew.

“Everything’s going to come to an end,” Oldman said, reflecting on his earlier remarks. However, four years later, his outlook has changed.

“Since I said that I did a play, so there we are. I’m probably not ready yet. So we’ll see what the future holds,” he said.

Oldman has played Jackson Lamb since Slow Horses premiered in 2022. Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House book series, the Apple TV+ drama follows a group of MI5 agents who have been relegated to the organisation’s dysfunctional Slough House department.

Oldman described Lamb as a deeply loyal character despite his unkempt appearance and difficult personality. He also acknowledged some similarities between himself and Lamb, including their long-standing friendships, while pointing out their differences.

The sixth season combines storylines from the sixth and seventh books in Herron’s series. It follows Lamb and his team as they become caught up in a high-stakes conflict involving newly promoted First Desk Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas.

Olivia Cooke, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung and Aimee-Ffion Edwards also return, while Hugo Weaving reprises his role as Frank Harkness.

Slow Horses season 6 premieres on Apple TV+ on September 16, with new episodes released weekly through October 21.
