Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien reunite for the first time since Starship Troopers in new thriller, No Free Lunch

Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien are reuniting on screen for the first time since their 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers. The actors have completed filming the upcoming thriller No Free Lunch in Hamilton, Ontario.

The film is the third project in the Horizon Line and March On Productions slate, following Silent Nightfall, starring Stana Katic, Elisha Cuthbert and Talia Asseraf, and Greatest Actress, featuring Mena Suvari and C. Thomas Howell.

No Free Lunch follows a mother and daughter whose lives are thrown into danger after a college drop-off goes wrong. The pair are kidnapped by a former surgeon, played by Sebastian Pigott, who is determined to fulfil a promise made to his late mother.

As the mother and daughter are forced through a series of dangerous games, their relationship is tested while their captor plans to marry one of them. Richards and Van Dien play detectives and FBI agents who race to find the women using limited leads before the situation turns deadly.

The thriller also stars Arcadia Kendal, Lara Daans and Annie Malee.

Damian Lee directed No Free Lunch, with Bennet De Brabandere producing and Richard Salvatore serving as executive producer. Larissa Laskin and Lee share writing credits, while Maurizio Guarini composed the score. Raf Strupinski serves as director of photography.

The film is scheduled for release in spring 2027. Red Sea Media is handling international distribution and will present the project to buyers at the TIFF market, while Quiver Distribution is handling domestic sales.

Richards and Van Dien previously starred together in Starship Troopers, Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 science-fiction film, making their reunion one of the notable elements of the new thriller.
