Taylor Frankie Paul has revealed that her engagement to Doug Mason ended after she began questioning their relationship following the filming of her unaired season of The Bachelorette.
Paul discussed the relationship during season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which began streaming on Hulu on September 10. The 32-year-old reality star became engaged to Mason at the end of her season, but later decided their relationship was no longer working.
Paul said she felt an immediate connection with Mason and accepted his proposal, although she admitted the engagement happened quickly. She also revealed that her mother preferred two of the other finalists over Mason.
After returning to Utah, Paul said the relationship became strained. She also acknowledged that she continued seeing Dakota Mortensen, with whom she had an ongoing relationship. Paul said her feelings for Mortensen complicated her engagement to Mason.
Paul later became concerned about Mason's intentions after he appeared distant and asked for a three-day break from communication. She questioned whether he genuinely wanted to be with her or had other motivations, including his ambitions as a singer and rapper.
During the show, Paul explained that she ultimately decided to end the engagement during a “happy couple” reunion with Mason after filming concluded. She said ending the relationship brought her a sense of relief.
The former couple's relationship became particularly complicated because Paul's The Bachelorette season was never broadcast. The season was filmed earlier in 2026 but was shelved after footage resurfaced involving the 2023 incident that led to Paul's domestic violence arrest.
Mason has not publicly commented on the relationship or his status as the winner of Paul's unaired Bachelorette season.
All episodes of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 5 are available to stream on Hulu.
