Pakistan batsmen seek time for written responses

Pakistan batsmen Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) at Lahore on Thursday.

They were questioned as part of an investigation into alleged dressing room leaks and their activities during Pakistan’s England tour, sources familiar with the matter said.

The duo remained at the NCCIA office for around two hours.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had handed over the players’ mobile phones to the NCCIA as part of the investigation, according to sources. The devices are expected to undergo technical and forensic analysis in the next phase of the inquiry.

Sources said Rizwan and Imam have asked for additional time to submit written responses through their lawyers.

Sources said that NCCIA would investigate the matter and if any outcome emerges then it would ultimately be the PCB’s prerogative to take further step.

Rizwan, a former Pakistan captain and one of the country’s leading batsmen, has been a central figure in the national side for several years. Imam has also been a regular member of Pakistan’s international setup, particularly in the longer formats.

The PCB had the other day issued a statement through its Director Media Amir Mir revealing that the Board had initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct.

Mir said in his message on X that the PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures.

Both Rizwan and Imam were among seven players who were sent back home after Pakistan lost Lord’s Test by 194 runs.

Their cell phones had been taken into possession by the PCB security team.
