Harry Potter gets magical new trailer ahead of HBO series debut

HBO releases new trailer and images for 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone' series ahead of its December debut

HBO has released a new teaser trailer and promotional images for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling Harry Potter book series.

The new HBO series will introduce a new cast to the Wizarding World, with the first season adapting the events of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The series is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max during the Christmas season in December 2026.

The story follows Harry Potter, a young boy who discovers that he is a wizard after receiving a mysterious letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At the magical school, Harry forms friendships with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley while uncovering secrets connected to the darkest wizard in the wizarding world.

 

Dominic McLaughlin stars as Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Warwick Davis returns to the Wizarding World as Filius Flitwick, while Johnny Flynn plays Lucius Malfoy and Bel Powley portrays Petunia Dursley. Other cast members include Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

The HBO adaptation marks a new television interpretation of the Harry Potter story, following the success of the original film franchise. The first season will focus on Harry’s introduction to Hogwarts and his early adventures in the magical world.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is set to premiere on HBO Max in December 2026.
