Work on three new underpasses to begin soon
Following the completion and opening of the Kachehri Chowk, TM Chowk and GPO Chowk underpasses and flyovers, a decision has been taken to start construction of three underpasses at Qasim Market Chowk, Charing Cross Chowk and Qabristan Chowk on Peshawar Road in the first week of September.
The three underpasses will cost Rs8.835 billion.
The shifting of services at the sites and preparation of alternative traffic routes have entered the final stage.
According to sources, the final phase of the signal-free corridor from Kachehri Chowk to Chungi No 26 and Motorway Chowk will involve construction of underpasses at Qasim Market Chowk, Charing Cross Chowk and Qabristan Chowk on Peshawar Road.
An underpass has already been constructed at Golra Mor on Peshawar Road under the signal-free corridor project.
The Kachehri Chowk-to-Chungi No 26 signal-free corridor will provide motorists using the route easy access to Islamabad International Airport, Islamabad-Lahore, Peshawar and Hazara motorways. Under the signal-free corridor, vehicles will be able to cover the distance from Kachehri Chowk to Motorway Chowk in 20 minutes.
According to C&W Department sources, relocation of services from the sites has entered the final stage before construction of the three underpasses on Peshawar Road. Alternative traffic routes have also been prepared to keep traffic flowing during construction.
