Teen worker allegedly thrown from rooftop after demanding salary

16-year-old suffers serious injuries; two suspects arrested

FAISALABAD:

A 16-year-old domestic worker was allegedly subjected to physical assault and pushed from the rooftop of a house after demanding her salary in Abdullah Garden, police said on Friday.

Police registered a case against four members of a family and arrested two suspects following the incident.

According to the FIR registered at Madina Town police station, the girl, identified as Alisha Ramzan, had been working as a domestic helper at the house of Ayesha, wife of Hamza, and others for about a month.

Her father, Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of 435-GB Jhok Datta, told police that his daughter demanded her salary from Ayesha after completing a month of employment. He alleged that instead of paying her, Ayesha continued to delay the payment.

According to the complainant, Alisha again demanded her wages at around 5pm on August 26, following which Ayesha allegedly became angry and assaulted her with slaps, kicks and punches.

The FIR further alleges that the woman attempted to strangle the girl and later brought a knife from the kitchen, threatening to kill her.

The girl allegedly ran towards the rooftop in an attempt to escape, but the suspects followed her and allegedly continued beating her.

As per the FIR, one of the suspects, identified as Komal, allegedly pushed Alisha from the roof, causing her to fall into a neighbouring house.

The girl sustained injuries, including a fractured right leg and broken teeth, besides injuries to other parts of her body.

She was initially shifted to a private hospital in an unconscious condition before being referred to Civil Hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, SHO Madina Town Adeel Akram Cheema and other police officials reached the scene.

Police registered a case against Ayesha, Komal, Arshad and Usman under sections 354, 342 and 506 read with Section 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police subsequently arrested Arshad and Usman, while further investigation was under way.

However, Ayesha and her mother Komal, who are among those nominated in the case, rejected the allegations. They claimed that the domestic worker had allegedly committed a theft at their house and that they confronted her after CCTV footage surfaced.
