A sequel to the beloved 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is officially in development at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson attached to produce.
The project remains in its early stages, and a screenwriter has not yet been hired. According to reports, Paramount and the filmmakers hope Hudson and Matthew McConaughey will eventually reprise their roles as magazine writer Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry. However, casting decisions will depend on the eventual screenplay.
Hudson will produce the sequel through her Shiny Penny banner alongside veteran producer Stacey Sher, whose credits include Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained.
Plot details for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days 2 are currently being kept under wraps. The original film followed Andie and Benjamin as they entered a relationship for completely different reasons. Andie wanted to prove that she could drive a man away for a magazine article, while Benjamin bet that he could make any woman fall in love with him. Their competing schemes eventually turned into a genuine romance.
Directed by Donald Petrie, the original How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days earned nearly $180 million worldwide and became a defining romantic comedy of the early 2000s.
The planned sequel arrives amid Hollywood’s renewed interest in late 1990s and early 2000s franchises, with several nostalgic titles returning to cinemas.
Hudson has remained active in film and television, most recently starring in Song Sung Blue and leading Netflix’s Running Point. McConaughey, meanwhile, has largely moved away from romantic comedies but has recently returned to the big screen.
