The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is reportedly assisting the investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, according to ABC News.
Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greenville City Police Department is currently leading the investigation into her death.
According to ABC News journalists, DEA agents were assisting authorities as of Wednesday. Representatives for the DEA and Panettiere’s family had not commented on the reported development.
The circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death remain under investigation. TMZ previously reported that Naloxone, a medication that can be used to reverse an opioid overdose, was found at the apartment where the actress died.
A police report also stated that Panettiere’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother, Zack Hickerson, were at the residence when emergency services arrived.
Panettiere’s death has also prompted tributes from colleagues and co-stars, including Jack Coleman, who played her father Noah Bennet on Heroes.
Coleman shared a message on Instagram on Wednesday remembering the actress and their time working together on the superhero drama.
"I've loved Hayden since day one of the pilot of Heroes, 20 years ago, when she introduced herself by shouting 'daddy' and throwing her arms around me. From that day on, she called me daddio. She was Haydini, because she was a magician," Coleman wrote.
He also recalled her presence on the set, writing, "She brought joy to the set and a photographic memory. Everyone was in awe of her ability to bring it every take. A tiny colossus who loved to laugh. We laughed a lot. That shining face, that megawatt smile, that wasn't just for the camera. That was her. She glowed."
