Amy Schumer to star in and produce ‘Best Divorce Ever’ as an unconventional divorce turns chaotic
Amy Schumer will produce alongside Vanishing Angle as Concourse Media prepares worldwide sales for Toronto

Amy Schumer is taking on another comedy project, with the Emmy winning actor set to star in and produce Best Divorce Ever, an upcoming film from writer director Sean Mullin. The project is being introduced to international buyers as Concourse Media prepares to launch worldwide sales in Toronto next month, according to Variety.
Schumer will produce the film alongside Matthew Lee Miller and Natalie Metzger through Vanishing Angle, the production company behind films including Kill Me, Werewolves Within, Greener Grass, Queens of the Dead and Thunder Road. Concourse Media will executive produce and finance the project alongside its sister company, Archetype Media Finance.
Best Divorce Ever centres on Clarissa, played by Schumer, and Franklin, a couple who have spent 20 years together before deciding to end their marriage. Rather than allowing their separation to become hostile, the pair attempt to create an unusually friendly divorce and organise an event they call an "Untying the Knot" party.
Their plan quickly becomes complicated as they attempt to adjust to life after marriage. Disastrous dates, suspicious reactions from their children and increasingly misguided efforts at conscious uncoupling begin to undermine their carefully planned separation. The story ultimately focuses on the difficulty of maintaining a happy family relationship after a marriage has ended.
Mullin wrote and will direct the film. His previous work includes Amira & Sam, Kings of Beer, Brothers on Three and It Ain’t Over. His documentary It Ain’t Over, about baseball legend Yogi Berra, received two Critics Choice Award nominations and a Writers Guild Award nomination.
Mullin said the screenplay was inspired by his own amicable divorce and argued that popular ideas surrounding the end of a marriage could benefit from a different perspective. Concourse Media CEO Matthew Shreder praised the project for combining the difficult subject of divorce with comedy and described Schumer as an ideal performer for the material.
Schumer brings extensive experience across television, film and stand up comedy to the project. She created, wrote, directed, executive produced and starred in the award winning Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer, which earned a Peabody Award alongside Emmy, Writers Guild, Critics Choice Television and Television Critics Association recognition.
Her film credits include Trainwreck, I Feel Pretty, Snatched, The Humans, Unfrosted and If. She most recently starred in, co wrote and produced Netflix's Kinda Pregnant. She also created, wrote, directed, executive produced and starred in Hulu's Life & Beth, while her recent stand up work includes the Netflix special Amy Schumer: Emergency Contact.
The casting of Schumer gives Best Divorce Ever a clear connection to the actor's established comedy career, while Mullin's involvement places the film within his growing body of character driven projects. The production is currently being positioned for international buyers, with Concourse Media scheduled to begin worldwide sales in Toronto.
The film is also part of a wider slate from Concourse Media that includes The Smack, starring Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell, Marisa Tomei and Kathy Bates, and Vision Board, featuring Lucy Hale. The company has also recently secured international distribution deals for projects including Sender and Maybe We Should.
