Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner's 'Possession' remake sets 2027 release date

The upcoming remake of Andrzej Żuławski's 1981 psychological horror film Possession, starring Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner, has set a summer 2027 theatrical release date.

The new version is directed by Parker Finn, the filmmaker behind Smile and Smile 2. The project is being positioned as a new take on the cult classic, which originally starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill.

Qualley and Turner will take on the central roles in the remake, with the story again revolving around a troubled relationship that takes increasingly disturbing and supernatural turns.

The original Possession has developed a major cult following in the decades since its release, particularly for Adjani's acclaimed performance and its surreal depiction of marital breakdown, obsession and horror.

Finn's remake has generated significant interest because of the filmmaker's success with the Smile franchise and the opportunity to revisit one of the most distinctive psychological horror films of the 1980s.

Possession is now scheduled to arrive in cinemas in summer 2027, giving the remake a major theatrical launch window.
