Joseph and Kendra Duggar withdraw not guilty pleas in Arkansas child endangerment case

The couple face eight Arkansas charges, while Joseph also faces allegations in Florida in a separate case

Joseph Duggar and his wife Kendra Duggar have withdrawn their not guilty pleas in an Arkansas child endangerment case, marking a major development in the legal proceedings against the couple.

The pair had been due to appear in court in Arkansas on Monday, August 10, but they were permitted to skip the hearing after their attorney submitted a plea by order to the court. The move allows the case to proceed without the couple making a personal appearance at that stage.

Joseph and Kendra are facing eight charges in Arkansas. Each has been charged with four counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second degree false imprisonment. The charges were filed in March 2026.

According to reports from Us Weekly and People, withdrawing their not guilty pleas does not by itself mean that they have entered guilty pleas. The court filing allows them to enter a guilty or no contest plea as the case moves forward. The judge will determine how the proceedings are resolved and whether any penalties apply.

Kendra, 27, was arrested in Arkansas in March and was released shortly afterwards on a $1,470 bond. Joseph, 31, had already been arrested in Arkansas in connection with a separate Florida investigation before the Arkansas charges involving the couple were filed.

The Arkansas case is separate from the criminal case Joseph faces in Florida. In that case, he has pleaded not guilty to charges involving alleged sexual conduct with a girl who was 9 years old at the time of the alleged incidents during a 2020 family trip to Panama City Beach. The girl is now 14.

Joseph was arrested in March and later transferred to Florida. He appeared before a judge there on March 31, pleaded not guilty and was released on a $600,000 bond. As part of his release conditions, a judge barred him from having unsupervised contact with anyone under 18. The Florida allegations remain unresolved, and Joseph is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The Arkansas proceedings involve Joseph and Kendra together and concern allegations separate from the Florida case. Kendra had previously pleaded not guilty to the Arkansas charges, while Joseph entered his not guilty plea through his attorney in April. Reports at the time confirmed that both were facing the same eight charges in the Arkansas matter.

The couple have been married since September 2017 and have four children. Their family situation has also become part of the court proceedings. Earlier in the case, restrictions were placed on contact with their children. Kendra later had a no contact order lifted, while Joseph was permitted supervised contact after a request for unsupervised contact was denied.

The latest court filing therefore changes the direction of the Arkansas case without resolving the separate Florida allegations against Joseph. The two legal matters should not be treated as a single case, as they involve different charges and jurisdictions.

The Arkansas court will now determine the next steps following the couple’s decision to withdraw their previous not guilty pleas. Meanwhile, Joseph’s Florida case continues independently, with the allegations still subject to the criminal justice process.
