Timothée Chalamet’s 'Wonka 2' sequel reportedly delayed indefinitely

The future of Wonka 2 has become uncertain after writer Simon Farnaby revealed that the highly anticipated sequel has been delayed indefinitely due to scheduling concerns surrounding star Timothée Chalamet.

The original Wonka film, released in 2023, became a major box office success, earning more than $600 million worldwide. The musical fantasy movie starred Chalamet as a young Willy Wonka and explored the character’s journey before the events of Roald Dahl’s classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

During a recent interview while discussing his upcoming film The Magic Faraway Tree, Farnaby addressed the status of Wonka 2. He explained that Chalamet is interested in returning but has not yet decided on his future schedule or when he would be available for the sequel.

“He wants to do one, but he’s not sure about timing or what he wants to do next,” Farnaby said, adding that the project is currently “delayed indefinitely.”

Warner Bros. has not officially cancelled Wonka 2, but the sequel’s development appears to depend heavily on Chalamet’s availability. The actor has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars, with major projects including the Dune franchise and Christopher Nolan’s upcoming films.

Chalamet is expected to reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, while his upcoming projects include the animated sci-fi film Not Alone, which also stars Selena Gomez.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Wonka 2, the success of the first film has kept interest high among fans hoping to see Chalamet return as the beloved chocolatier.
